Travel with die-fussballreise.de to the games of the "Squadra Azzurra", the world-renowned and globally popular football national team of Italy. Book football trips, tickets, and hotel for the games of Italy, the four-time world champion.

Italy is the most successful European country at World Cups after Germany. However, the fact that the "Squadra Azzurra" missed the tournaments in 2018 and 2022 in Russia and Qatar allowed the DFB team to overtake in terms of World Cup participations – Germany has played in 20 World Cup finals, Italy "only" 18 times.

Missing the World Cup in Russia was a historic but not a unique slip for Italy. A 0-0 draw against Sweden in the playoff second leg (first leg: 1-0) meant the four-time world champion was not at a World Cup finals for the first time since 1958. In 2022, they failed in the playoff semifinals against North Macedonia (0-1).

Despite these setbacks, Italy made a splash in 2021 and won the European Championship for the second time in Wembley against co-host England in a penalty shootout.

As defending champions, the "Azzurri" will be back in 2024, but they trembled to the finish line with a 0-0 draw in the direct duel with Ukraine in Leverkusen.

2032: Fifth Tournament in Italy

Italy has made history in both the World Cup and European Championship. The country has hosted two World Cups (1934, 1990) and two European Championships (1968, 1980). Italy won two of these four home tournaments, becoming world champions in their own country in 1934 and winning the third edition of the new European Championship in 1968.

In 2032, Italy will co-host the EURO with Turkey for the third time. All confirmed information about the tournament and venues can be found here.

Fans will also see one of Italy's record men at the EURO 2024 in Germany: Gianluigi "Gigi" Buffon. The goalkeeper, now the delegation leader of the Italian national team, is the country's record national player with 176 caps. Buffon also led the "Gli Azzurri" onto the field as captain 80 times, which is also a record. The outfield player with the most games as team captain is Fabio Cannavaro (79 games), like Buffon, a 2006 world champion.

The goal record has been held by Luigi "Gigi" Riva for 50 years. On September 29, 1973, Riva replaced the previous top scorer and two-time world champion Giuseppe Meazza († 1979) with his 35th international goal against Sweden (2-0) in Milan.

Important international matches of the Italian national team have acquired a special melodramatic note through penalty shootouts. Since the introduction of this decision, Italy has had to go into a penalty shootout 14 times. They won seven times and lost seven times.

The only World Cup or European Championship defeat against Germany was in 2016 in Bordeaux after a penalty shootout. They lost the 1994 World Cup title in Pasadena (USA) against Brazil in this way.
But: The "Azzurri" secured two titles in penalty shootouts: in 2006 in the final against France in Berlin and in 2021 against England.

Italy Tickets: More than 60,000 Seats in Rome and Milan

Tickets for the Italian national team are also highly sought after for international "classics" against Germany, France, Spain, or England.

Because: Italian football fans (Tifosi) travel from all over the world to the international matches. Over one million people of Italian descent live in Germany alone.

A small advantage: Like Germany, Italy has a city rotation for home international matches. The "Squadra Azzurra" has already played in 42 Italian stadiums, 64 times in Rome and 61 times in Milan.

The stadiums in the capital Rome and in the football capital Milan – Stadio Olimpico and Giuseppe Meazza Stadium – have more than 60,000 seats, so tickets for the Italian national team may also be available against top teams.
